The Alice Martineau Appeal 09 Jun 2004
A truly spectactular night, The Alice Martineau Appeal kicked off on the 8th June, Alice Martineau's Birthday (Happy Birthday Alice!) with a wonderful reception and auction of paintings. 26 paintings one for each letter of the alphabet, painted by Luke Martineau, Alice Martineau's brother.

Guests included The Duchess of York, who was truly wonderful, championing the cause for the CF Trust and Alice Martineau, as well as Phil Long and Steve Andrews - Alice's managers, Stevie Lange - Alice's Vocal trainer, Alice's Family, Al, her boyfriend, and her friends, as well as reported sightings of Richard and Judy, and Jo Whiley from Radio 1. A huge thankyou goes out to all involved in the event, a lot of effort was put in and it paid off in a big way. Lots of money was raised for the CF Trust with the paintings going for thousands of pounds each.

time for reflection 06 Mar 2004
One year ago today, the world lost someone deeply special. Alice Martineau had a wonderful talent and she had something special that set her apart from everyone else. Her music is still reaching people today, making them think, making them feel emotions and bringing happiness to people's lives. Alice Martineau will always live on in our hearts, and let us not forget, each time we play her songs, how special she will always be.

I hope one day, that more people will get to know how special Alice was, I hope she will one day get the recognition, and fame she deserved. It wasn't about being rich with Alice, it was about the music, Alice loved music and she shared that love with us all, she shared her gift with us all.

its been a month since the last update, and I have to say its looking good, over 680 hits in the month!

as for future events regarding the website, all I can say is, watch this space. things are happening, slowly but plans have been made.. watch this space!

NEW BIG SITE UPDATE!! 20 Dec 2003
Merry Christmas everyone! I'm off on holiday for christmas, so I leave you all with a huge site update!

First things first, the 2 new pictures are in the magazines folder in the Gallery!

The first thing you will notice (I hope :) is the new about section, I have split the articles etc into sub sections so you can find things more easily.

In the Information section, there is a new page for the Guardian Q and A.
in the Interviews section, there are new pages for the Alice Martineau interview, and the You Magazine interview.
in the articles section, there are new pages for the "Don't call me a victim" article, the BBC Documentary, and the Telegraph/Independent Obituary.
in the Charity Events section, there's a new page for the carols by candlelight charity event
in the music and discography section, there are 2 pages for the new discography (I know its missing the crying game cd, will be added when I get my copy)
and finally in the exclusive content section is our question and answer page with ICD Studios!

if you look in the lyrics, I have added the lyrics for the radio edits of "Inside Of You" and "The Right Time" and also the single version of "The Right Time."

please vote on the poll, sign the guestbook and send some e-cards!!

merry christmas,

peter

news and site update 15 Dec 2003
welcome to another news update, this one is a little late because I wanted the update to be done and up for a couple of days first.

first of all the carols by candlelight service went amazingly well, a lot of people turned up and I heard 650 tickets were sold with £13,000 taken for the cystic fibrosis trust at the end of the evening. The next update will feature the programme

as for the documentary, the latest news I've heard from daswildthing is that the documentary is planned for bbc2 during the disability season (which obviously is the worst time for it to be shown so lets hope they can be made to change their minds and give it a better slot :)

finally the update will be done by saturday evening at the latest (I go away on sunday so it will be up by then) you may think 1 week isn't much time to get a 2nd update done but rest assured I have some nice new additions to the site and some nice improvements already, and I'm working on more! As always, if you have any ideas, no matter how large or small for the site, I'd love to hear them, you're welcome to email me: peter @ alice-martineau.com

please vote on the poll and sign the guest book, let me know what you think of the site!

NEW UPDATE!! 12 Dec 2003
Welcome to the news page. Originally the site contained all the news on the front page, which lead to slower loading times and very little content on the front page. This has all changed in the new site design with the latest news item being the only news on the page!

The front page has had numerous changes, I'll try to list them all here:

1) the background image. The old image has now found its home on the news page (was very fitting I thought :)

2) the random quote. Some you have heard already, some you haven't heard. every time you visit the site, theres a random quote on the front page. feel free to refresh the page and see a new quote (it won't alter the counters!)

3) the new news system. Instead of having all the news on the front page, there is a little section for the short version of the latest news, with a link to take you to the full thing.. thats how you got here!

4) the voting poll. I will try to update this regularly (regularly being after its had a good number of votes, so use it often!)

5) the important announcement. With only a small space for the latest news, I wanted a small section that could contain an important announcement for everyone (such as petitions to sign, companies to call repeatedly, etc :) this is just below the picture on the right.

6) the information. The site now details on the front page, what each of the sections contain, or will contain in the future (such as the guide), and the visitor information (the counters), and the little w3 logo saying the page is properly coded (yay!)

so that's the front page, what else is there?

1) the E-card Service. Currently in its beta stage, I hope to make it look a little better later (updates first, minor aesthetics later!) allows you to send a free card to people via email, give it a go, send yourself a card if you want to see how it works, christmas is coming up soon, send christmas e-cards to your online friends!

2) the guestbook. This goes without saying, I don't have high hopes for pages of signatures but it would be nice, please feel free to sign it and make it look a bit more interesting!

3) the news page. Well, it's here! finally a page where you can read the news, and post your own comments on each news item! ever wanted to point out the spelling mistakes or just want to support a new idea, feel free to leave comments and respond to others, just no abuse please!

4) the gallery. While the other features are all new to the site, the gallery is the first dramatic replacement of a feature, with tracking stats and folders to group the photos, the gallery is a significant improvement over the previous 20 pages of pictures in no particular order.

5) last but not least, I added a new site to the links page, www.scifinews.net, in the honorable mentions, if you have a look, you'll see advertisements for this site at the top of the page and on the right if you scroll down!

well, thats it for this stage of the update, more is on the way!

new look for the news! 11 Dec 2003
The site took a leap forward today with the latest updates, which have included new features and a revitilisation of the existing front page.

The news system was overhauled and now runs on a quick and effective php script that takes all the work out of new news (woohoo!) and the picture gallery runs on a neat script that will make updates easier and sorts the pictures into folders for me.

The E-card system is useful and fun to use, everyone is welcome to use it as often as they want, and christmas is coming up so feel free to send a christmas message to friends and family using the site!

please take a moment to sign the guest book and vote on the poll, if you check out the news page, you will notice the comments option so feel free to leave your own feedback on each news item!!! (no abusive language please :)

more updates will follow so stay tuned!
